Sumptuous Uzbekistan Cuisine

ZOR at the Pointe on the Palm brings hearty flavours to Dubai

By Shereen Shabnam

Before the summer heat came upon us, we headed to the Palm Jumeirah to explore the Pointe and sample delicacies at ZOR, which means Excellent! In Uzbek. Sitting outdoors in the evening meant we had front row views of the fountain while dining and enjoy the best mezze in the city with an equally indulgent selection of main courses and desserts.

ZOR’s vision is to bring the best of Uzbek food and culture to Dubai on a plate and they stay true to their word. The knowledgeable and friendly team curate a ZOR experience for each guest from the moment they sit on the table. We had three meat eaters on our table with one pescatarian and the ZOR team prepared a sample of their wide range of mezze to share with meat and fish dishes done to individual taste.

We discovered during our dinner that Uzbek cuisine is widely influenced by countries from Asia, Middle East and Turkey and their selection of Levant inspired mezze dishes such as hummous, tabouleh and crispy eggplant happen to be best you can find in Dubai with the right amount of seasoning and aromatic taste.

Zor’s dishes enticed us with delicious aromas and presentation while we enjoyed the music when the fountains came on. We highly recommend the mutton dishes served with vegetables and herbs, OSH and somsas, a meat or potato filled oven baked pastry dish similar to samosas.

Our favourite was of course OSH which is rice dish similar to pilaf cooked with rice, meat, carrots, onions, cooked over open fire and garnished with raisins, chickpeas etc. Uzbek cuisine has an amazing history with a melting pot of flavours and spices prepared with various rituals that elevate the dining experience to all-new heights.

We enjoyed watching our neighboring tables who were familiar with Uzbek cuisine order dishes that involved theatrical presentations of sizzling meat with traditional bread. The favorite dishes shared by our two young hungry companions was a metre Long Lamb Kofta with a Cheddar Cheese Sauce and the Zor Mixed Grill Platter. If you are a meat lover, this platter is heavenly with a whole lot of Lamb Chops, Chicken and Beef. We recommend having this dish with harra potatoes in a Sweet Chilli Paste.

Located at The Pointe, ZOR has picture-perfect views from the terrace and beautiful homely interiors that invite guests to sit back and relax. The authentic dishes served in true Uzbek style is an added reason to head there with friends and family.
