For more than 100 years, the Dodge brand has carried on the spirit of brothers John and Horace Dodge. Their influence continues today as Dodge shifts into high gear with muscle cars and SUVs that deliver unrivaled performance in each of the segments where they compete.
And the new rugged Dodge Durango GT is no different. We drive it around the city for a couple of days and while there was not enough time to really get to know the full SUV capabilities, it still gave us some insights of what the new Durango is like.
INTERIOR
The new driver-centric cockpit was inspired by the beloved interior of the Dodge Challenger. The available Uconnect screen has been upgraded with a 10.1-inch touchscreen that is 7-degrees oriented towards the driver. It remains one of the industry’s best entertainment and information interfaces because it is simple and intuitive. And for added ease and convenience, the Dodge Durango also offers a wireless charging pad. The redesigned dashboard with a thinner center stack area and better stowage.
The interior of the Durango is designed to engage all your senses and immerse you in the excitement of the journey. The comfortable seats and spacious cabin set the scene for every adventure and you can also choose to relax into premium Nappa leather upholstery. A modern cockpit layout places every control within easy reach to make driving feel instinctive and easy. A highlight of the central console is the rotary E-shift knob which enhances the smoothness of the drive. You can personalize your Durango with a wide choice of fabrics and colors to match your style and personality.
EXTERIOR
The sculptured, athletic and mascular exterior of the new Durango GT has an upgraded redesigned front fascia and grille, a revised rear spoiler, a tweaked front bumper and it has a lot more options for exterior colors. The new LED headlamps and fog lamps, the signature Dodge LED running lamps all offer the driver more visibility.
PERFORMANCE
The Durango’s basic engine is a award-winning 3.6-liter V6 engine that that generates 290 horsepower and 353 Nm of torque, delivers decent muscle power, notable fuel efficiency and has the best-in-class towing capacity across its lineup. There are other specs available such as the V-8 engine with the standard eight-speed automatic and optional all-wheel drive.
VERDICT
The family-friendly Dodge Durango is both fun to drive and it stands out in a crowd. It takes the power and performance of a muscle car and combines it with the spacious feel of an SUV. It is commanding and impressive to look at with traditional Dodge styling and modern details, that reflect Dodge’s commitment to both its heritage and its future.
