Agile and Edgy: Honda Civic EXI 2020

By Shereen Shabnam

The new 2020 Honda Civic comes in several variants and remains a perfect mid-size family sedan that ticks all the boxes for budget buyers who want a car that looks luxurious. Over time, it has evolved from a hatchback to a sedan to a coupe.

The new Civic is good value, comes with a spacious interior space, efficient fuel economy and has a wide range of bodies and engines to suit the tastes of different drivers. The 2.0-liter inline-4 is standard in the sedan and coupe while a 1.5-liter turbo-4 is another efficient option. We find that the new Honda Civic is an excellent balance between comfort and driver engagement.

Exterior Design

The Honda Civic has sleek rooflines with grilles at the front and rear corners dominating the look of the car. The upper trims have Signature LED turn signals, headlights and Daytime Running Lights (DRL) to alert other drivers of its presence and comes equipped with color-coordinated power side mirrors. Wing spoilers and 17-inch wheels enhance the style of the new Civic.

Interior Cabin/ Technology

The Honda Civic has spacious high-quality interior and a modern appearance. It offers ample leg space and headroom with comfortable seats that can be adjusted by a power lever.

The infotainment comes on a 7″ screen touchscreen (5″ display on the base models) and has Honda Connect, which links you to web-based apps and traffic with easy-to-use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The touchscreen interface is certainly improved with a volume knob for the audio system. We love the two higher speed USB ports and the single 12-volt outlet for charging our devices, the dual-zone climate control, and the passenger-side camera system that displays the passenger-side blind spot on the infotainment screen.

The back seats are comfortable while the trunk is vast and deep able to fit two suitcases easily for travellers. In our case, it accommodated a fully equipped golf bag, diving gear, groceries, gym bag, 6 pairs of shoes and my boxes of magazines.

Safety

In addition to automatic emergency braking, all Civics have a full suite of active safety features including active lane control, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.

Overview

We like the practicality, taut handling and easy steering of the Civic and as a small car, it is a joy to drive around. It is popular with buyers for everyday commute to work but just as much fun for leisure drives.
