Recently I got my hands on the new Golf R, Volkswagen’s top performance model and the elite member of the R-Brand for a few days.
I was particularly excited as Golf was my first car in the same beautiful blue but the latest edition I drove was so much better as it offered a driving experience like never before as a performance model.
The all-new Golf R comes with 235 kW / 320 HP making it capable of accelerating to 100km/h in a mere 4.8 seconds uniting speed, precision and power that makes it the pefect car, loaded with performance features that releases power exactly when and where you need it.
Equipped with an exclusive design and equipment, the all-new Golf R is the first Golf to be launched with a new all-wheel drive system: 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring and selective wheel torque control on the rear axle.
This innovative drive significantly increases the agility of the new Golf R, particularly when cornering. This means that drivers enjoy precise and neutral handling, optimum traction characteristics and exceptional agility, especially with the 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R Performance Torque Vectoring and high-performance brake system.
Some of the key exterior features of the new Golf R model that we liked was the matt chrome mirrors, the R logo floor projection when the car door is opened and closed and the alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin, the Golf R updates include the customised and enhanced premium sports seats, an R button that allows quick access to different driving modes, a 10-inch infotainment system and a digital cockpit equipped with the latest technology elements.
The R Performance Package includes a larger, prominent rear spoiler for extra downforce on the rear axle, 19-inch wheels in the Estoril design and two additional driving profiles, “Special” (Nürburgring mode) and “Drift”. The driving profile selection can be rapidly accessed by pressing the R button on the steering wheel.
Also new in Golf R is an optional Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, which is seven kilograms lighter than the standard system and controls the engine sound.
Overall, the all-new Golf R, as the star of the R-brand delivers sheer power with sports-tuned suspension which ensures the driver both control, comfort and offers maximum driving pleasure.
