Shereen Shabnam
During one of my manic days, I had a chance to escape to Meliã Desert Palm Dubai to have a private lunch at RARE with a Swiss brand and fell in love with the simple yet lush fare. Located on an extensive polo estate, the resort is nestled amidst lush polo fields and sitting at the patio and the view from RARE, a restaurant that is known for the best steaks in town, offers an oasis of calm.
We started our meet and greet outside sipping detox mocktails before the lunch. I always judge a chef by the bread and butter they serve and it is rare that they get it right – imagine my delight when we were served crusty warm bread with salted butter that had a slightly just right garlic taste. So many chefs serve unsalted butter and spoil the mood before the meal even begins but not at RARE. Here they know taste and that takes top priority.
Normally RARE attracts meat connoisseurs who relish hand-cut and perfectly aged steaks but we had salads for starters, pasta dishes and a healthy fruit dessert. The watermelon salad looked amazing as well but I opted for a simple wholesome green salad.
The pasta was done to perfection and everyone at the table wiped their bowls clean. I was heading for a long journey to Abu Dhabi after the meal so the fresh fruit option was my choice that did not disappoint. It was presented beautifully and was a delight for the eyes as much as it was for the palate. We are definitely going back for the meat as soon as we need our next escape from the city.
