Renowned clock designer and architect Amjad Al Hajj is set to captivate audiences at the 11th edition of Downtown Design. I met with Amjad years ago when he first started his journey and his designs have since evolved to reflect his aim for perfection and beauty.
Celebrated for his ability to blend artistry with the essence of time, Al Hajj’s creations transcend functionality to become monumental sculptures and exquisite wall art. Drawing inspiration from philosophical musings on nature, cosmology, and the fleeting beauty of moments, his works are crafted from minimalistic yet striking materials like concrete and steel, reflecting a raw and contemporary aesthetic.
“I am thrilled to present my latest creations at Downtown Design this year,” said Al Hajj. “My work goes beyond timekeeping; each piece is a story, a tangible manifestation of moments captured in art.”
Since introducing his acclaimed Perceptions of Time collection in 2010, Al Hajj has redefined the boundaries between artistry and horology. Incorporating Swiss movement mechanisms, each timepiece becomes a fusion of precision and sculptural beauty, elevating them to objects of timeless allure.
Among his most iconic works is the Naffco Clock Tower, a 13-meter-tall masterpiece located in Jebel Ali, Dubai. Its robust steel structure, adorned with elegant granite and stainless steel, embodies modern sophistication while integrating solar-powered lighting for sustainable brilliance. A striking landmark, the clock tower stands as a testament to his vision and craftsmanship.
