Driving the Scala in previous years has been a pleasure but my second drive in the new Scala was pure delight as the model is always generous with space, offers exceptional levels of comfort and has an easy-to-use infotainment system.
We used the new versatile Skoda Scala for a week both for fun city errands and as a family car. With one of the highest rating for fuel efficiency, the Skoda Scala is truly an economical and fun car to have for daily use.
Exterior
Modern and sporty, the new Skoda Scala has a Red Dot design accolade and has a distinctive style. It has features strong sculptural shapes on the outside that interplays with light and shadow.
We loved the newly styled door mirrors, the chrome grill frame and window edges as well as the aero-style wheels in black and silver. The wide range of 16-to 18-inch alloy wheels is complemented by innovative Aero designs optimized to achieve minimum drag. The boot has good storage space with an adjustable false boot floor, double-sided boot liner and Boot nets and hence makes it a practical car.
Interior
The spacious interior has taken its cue from the dynamic exterior design and is more contemporary classic in terms of looks and the feel reveals use of soft materials. It has a large Virtual Cockpit and comes with solutions that makes your life easier while on the road such as the ŠKODA Sound System and wireless charging.
Features include a built-in SIM card and a wireless connection between your smartphone and the car via SmartLink. It also offers ample space in the front and is just as comfortable for passengers in the rear. There are holders for 1.5-litre bottles in the front doors, waste bin in the door trim as well as storage in every door.
Safety
At par with premium cars. the safety features in the new Scala is impressive. It comes complete with a host of advanced driver assist systems, up to 9 airbags, and a maximum 5-star rating underlines top safety level for cautious drivers.
Perfomance
The new Scala has a 1.6-cc engine and comes with features that include Central Locking, Active Steeringa and ABS (Anti-lock Brake System). It is built on a state-of-the-art MQB platform, featuring advanced design, the latest powertrains and advanced driver-assistance systems usually found in larger models. Fuel economy is always a strength with all Skoda models and the Scala is no different. It is a sensible choice for the more environment conscious buyers.
Verdict
An ideal car for young adults and small families. The new Skoda Scala is attractive both inside and outside. The silhouette is better than most hatchback models and in terms of being practical, it ticks all the boxes for safety, fuel efficiency and as a practical city car.
