A THREE-DAY PLAYBACK FESTIVAL AT THE DUBAI SEVENS

A special experience will take guests on a 50-year musical journey

Get ready to dance the weekend away at the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens’ 50-year playback festival.  Between 5th-7thDecember, three areas will come to life with music from DJs and tribute bands that will transport guests back in time and pay homage to each of the last five decades of the Dubai Sevens.

The Green Tavern Tent

The biggest of the areas (The Green Tavern Tent) will be dedicated all weekend to the decade that started it all – the 70s.  From there, guests can step into an 80s disco in the Green Room and a 90s Rock Zone in the Green Space on Friday.  On Saturday, both of these areas will be transformed to pay tribute to the 00s and 10s – taking guests on a full 50-year journey of rugby celebrations.

The Tavern

Revamped and reshuffled, ‘The Tavern’ at this year’s Dubai Sevens resembles more of ‘The Tavern 2.0’.  Whilst the layout has changed entirely, the real exciting difference is the big ‘70s playback’ stage in the center, complete with two massive screens to play a live feed of the rugby. This stage will feature headline performances from Abba Revival (an Abba Tribute) and La Freak so Chic (A Chic Tribute) on Friday. On Saturday, it will see Steven Wayne as Elton John (Elton John Tribute) and Freddie Mercury by Joey Dale (Freddie Mercury Tribute).

The Green Room

The Green Room, also known to fans as ‘The Dome’, will again feature a nightclub style party experience. After the big success of the Silent Disco in 2018, this area will be silent all weekend long. On Friday, crowd favorites Adam Aldous, Leon Knight and Scott Harris will take-over the decks to deliver an 80s disco. On Saturday, globally renowned party brand Candypants will lead the experience, taking guests through a highly festive 9-hour, 9-year musical journey of the last decade. Think lots of confetti, stilt walkers, dancers, inflatables and party props. To close the weekend off, Candypants will deliver a special set in honor of one of the last decades’ biggest EDM heroes – Avicii.

Green Space

The ‘Green Space’ is a festival-style open-air stage where acoustic vibes meet high-energy rock. On Friday, the 90s theme will feature headline performances from Green Haze (A Green Day Tribute) and Faux-Asis (An Oasis Tribute). On Saturday, the 00s theme will see performances from Hybrid Theory (A Linkin Park Tribute) and Coldplace (A Coldplay Tribute).

Those in the Green Space can also experience a one-of-kind musical experiment – a band silent disco.  Put your headphones on and hear the full band, take them off and hear nothing but loud singing in a quiet room – it promises to be an interesting party experience.

Kylie Minogue

Alongside this world-class entertainment, the famous international pop-singer Kylie Minogue will take to the stage at 9.30pm to perform a series of hits from her 30-year career in concert on Friday 6th December at The Sevens Stadium on pitch 2.

The Rugby Village

The Rugby Village will be overflowing with exciting and fun-filled activations for both adults and children on the big weekend and will feature food and beverage options with eats and treats from all over the world. Several activities such as inflatable zip-lining, inflatable water park, bungee jumping and much more by Splash ‘n’ Party. For the slightly younger ones, the popular Emirates Sabaa 7s Club will offer equally enjoyable activities like a carnival zone, inflatable obstacle course and trampolines with face painting, balloon bending, arts and crafts centre and much more for all the kids to enjoy.

70’s theme

To make the weekend even more exciting, everyone is encouraged to come to the event dressed up in their best 70s fancy dress as the event takes it back and celebrates its first era.  Further adding to the entertainment offer, the talented team from London, ‘Mana Cheerleaders’ will be showcasing some favourite 70s routines with a little twist on Pitch 1 on all three days alongside this year’s tribute artist, Freddy Mercury.
